Guitar Story: Roy Buchanan playing Kramer?

  Legendary blues player Roy Buchanan came running up to me one day back in the 80's, holding and waving around a white Kramer. Of course it has a locking nut system and Floyd Rose whammy bar, which was the current rage. I was so surprised to hear Roy go on and on about how much he loved the Kramer. Especially since he was one of he original Tele bluesmen. His show that night was fantastic! He seemed to really enjoy the whammy bar without the guitar going out of tune, and even though the pinch harmonics more extreme than usual, it was still real authentic blues from one of the real authentic original electric blues guitarists. He was open minded and turning the blues into something unique especially back then. I am very grateful for that experience.

Tip of the day: audience mania

  Feelings based on a false concept include the hypo-mania that one feels when people clap for them. The truth is that people will clap for pretty much anything. In fact people will clap just from seeing a sign saying to clap. LOL In fact most audiences are looking for an excuse to clap, yell, and scream. In smaller venues with alcohol served, it becomes quickly apparent that the performance is largely an excuse for them to yell, and their true music appreciation level is very low. They want to yell because of the beer and the next morning they don't even remember what songs they were yelling for. Don't be enamored by people clapping, or by compliments. I recommend instead to stick to what you know is excellent and have that confirmed either scientifically or by a qualified Maestro.

Guitar Stories: When Mick Taylor (the Rolling Stones) came to my studio

  An amazing thing happened when Mick Taylor, the ex Rolling Stones guitar player came to my studio as he was waiting to play in the club upstairs. It was very rare to see Don, the club owner, run around like a maniac, in fact this is the only time I ever saw him get really nervous. Mick was standing defiantly and aggressively in one spot and not moving as Don personally ran a couple of blocks away to get him a quart of votka. Turns out that the quart was part of Mick's contract and he wasn't going onstage. In fact, he wasn't moving at all and he looked really pissed. 
   Don comes rushing in and hands him the bottle and I personally eye witnessed Mick grab that bottle and guzzle down more than a third, and I mean straight down that hatch. I remembered half the bottle gone when he finally put it down so I am going conservative with more than a third guzzled. Without blinking an eye Mick calmly walked up the stairs and played a perfect excellent set without one missed nuance. Now that is a real man, a real guitar playing tough guy. And he can really play......

Tip of the day - "Don't autotune your brain"

   Almost everyone has fun singing in the shower, playing air guitar, or singing along with the voice on a record so that you blend your voice to avoid noticing that you are out of tune. Even a bona fide Maestro has an auto-tune function running inside their brain tha makes them feel that their music sounds better. The object is to have even more fun than singing in the shower, by enjoying singing in a way that pleases everyone else as well.

  Traditionally this singularity between what you hear in your head and what is actually being heard in the room is fixed with many years of training with a truly qualified musical director. Fortunately now there are ways in the digital domain to turn off your internal autotune adjuster, and achieve a very high standard of musical cognizance in your mind, and more importantly in real life.

   The most effective way to start that I know is to use apps with pitch feedback such as https://trainer.thetamusic.com/en/content/vocal-match for a couple of minutes several times per day.
